Guild group>Friendlist PuG>HeroHench>Full Henchcies>Random PUG.

Just did Gate of Maddness with another guildie with the rest made up of Heros hench. Almost fell alseep doing it while getting Master with completion.

Trust, co-ordination and respect are vitures absent from most PuG. HeroHencies on the other hand have co-ordination at least.

Feel free to make your own conclusions.

I always go for PUGs in missions. Reason being that it just adds more fun and variety to the game. I dont see the fun in dragging along heroes/henchies that act like sheep and dont talk at all. So i'll usually send out a LFP and see who turns up. Luckily i've not had too many bad PUGs but there have been all sorts of mending whammos, strange builds and people who just dont get the game at all. The best thing is, you can have a laugh about it with your team mates.

I remember once doing Hell's Precipice. I was healer, we got another guy in as prot, this guy had some really wierd build with life sheath and other random prot skills and he must have overdone it with superior runes or something because within 5 seconds of a fight starting, he'd just die. Must have died about 15 times so whenever he went down everyone joked about it.

So yeah, even though PUGs may often turn out to be crap, when all the team members learn to fall into place and the whammos learn how to pull, tank, hold and avoid agro, the group just works and its in my opinion, the best experience Guild Wars has to offer. I think its sad that so many people end up using heroes and henchies where they could be helping people learn how to play better and have fun in a group. I learnt how to monk by trial and improvement in PUGs, I just hope many players are still doing the same thing.

Obviously I do use henchies for minor quests and skill capping, thats my place for them in the game.

I'll use pugs when I know I need them.

Since I've done everything at least once in the chapters I have a good grasp when I need the independance of a PUG and when I can hero/hench it.

Rule of thumb : Pugs are good for missions, hero/hench for quests/capping

pugs are usually only good for comedy, both missions as well as well...anything. I'm always open to bringing one(1) pugger (ok 2 if they know each other) along with guildy of friend groups, but by their very nature ipugs are uncoordinated and will nearly always be more frustrating/poorly organized/less effective than heros or henches even. This is probably because in those missions which are generally thought of to be better/easier with a human group, those folks trying to get in pugs are those who cant get through the mission for whatever reasonand are frustrated sick of it.

I generally like to play with humans over AI, be it guild/friends/random PUG. Anything beats playing with dumb heroes that never talk and use Aegis AFTER the skirmish is over. If it is a quest tho I will generally do it with the hench to get to the next mission.

For missions or other higher end pve instances (eg. FoW) I like a pug, granted 2-3 are people I know and the rest are randoms. Since I set up the group I usually ask people to ping a bar and if they have a garbage bar (a monk had Balths Aura (smite), Aegis (prot), Healing Breeze & Mending (2 of the worst heal spells in the game, if not THE worst) - need I say more? or a warrior I did fow with the other day had Meteor Shower? When people have bars like that I give them a chance to change it to something useful assuming they were just fooling around or doing some insane solo thing. If they refuse, I kick em.

I suppose it also helps that I play monk so it is easy to find a pug that seems good since monks always seem to be wanted. Then again, if the group turns out to be utter crap, and they are not nice natured people, I leave.

I do not however disciminate based on character class, just useless garbage skill bars.

I prefer PUGs, but I've found that after Prophecies transitioned to Factions and the community got used to henchmen players have a hard time working together randomly.

Hence, I'll try to get a PUG for about 10 minutes before I do a mission and then hench it when nobody joins or takes me. (I usually play Assassin, so that outcomes happens a lot as you might expect. Hurray for buffage soon!)
